Campus-wide water shutdown Thursday, June 9

The following water shut down will include the Bunn Library.  Watch for updates, although we currently expect to be open during our normal summer hours (8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

A message from the Lawrenceville School Buildings & Ground Department:

Greetings Lawrenceville Community,

The good news!

In An effort to avoid future full campus interruption of water service the mechanical trades department has identified a few key locations where valves need to be installed on our water mains in order to allow us to split up the campus into smaller areas during a failure condition.

The bad news!

In order to allow us to install these key valves we will need another all campus water shutdown! The pipes we need to install these valves on are being excavated and prepared as we speak in an effort to minimize the interruption length. We have scheduled their installations for next Thursday June 9th. beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting approx. 6 hours. This shut down will affect the entire campus including on campus faculty housing.

Thanks to all for your patience, cooperation, and understanding while we take care of this important matter!

Movers in the library this week

The movers will be in the library this week in order to move our archives collections off campus for the summer.  They are expected to be here from Wednesday, May 25, through Friday, May 27, during daytime hours (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.)  While they are in the building, the Crescent-side door on the lobby will be unavailable for patron use and a staff door will be left open.  Please avoid those areas.

Please be aware that as of June 2, the entire Lower Level will be closed due to construction work.  Books in Dewey ranges 000-399 will need to be paged by librarians and may not be readily available for 24 hours.  The downstairs bathrooms will also be off limits.  The alternate will be the restrooms on the Upper Level.

We appreciate our patrons’ patience during these disruptions.

Floor plans

Many people have expressed interest in the floor plans of the new archives space.  The first image below shows the new reading room, archives office, workroom and “ring” storage space, which is around the exterior of the reading room.  The second image shows the main storage area, located in the former Large and Small AV Rooms.   The workroom furniture plan has been modified slightly from that shown.

Student records moving off campus for summer

On Monday, May 9, the student records stored in the Bunn Library’s Periodical storage room will be moved into off-campus storage for the summer.  These records, which include the oldest student records still extant and which cover students who attended Lawrenceville from the 1890s up through the 1960s, will not be available for retrieval until the new storage is completed in the early fall.  We will keep you posted about their return.
