Mission accomplished

The renovation of the Lawrenceville School archives culminated in a dedication ceremony on 6 October 2011.  Pictures of the newly finished spaces are on our pictures page.  An article on the dedication is also on the school website.  For a panorama slideshow of the transition of the archives from its original configuration to the new one, check out Archives Then and Now, compiled by Lawrenceville community member Dan Haun.

Tracks laid down and walls go up

After several days in which work focused on rerouting pipes and heating and cooling vents to connect to the rest of the building, construction is now focused on putting up the walls of the new reading room and laying down the tracks for the compact shelving units in the main archival storage space.  

The walls of the reading room are actually double-sided storage cabinets.  On the part facing in towards the room, users will see exhibit cabinets and flat-screen monitor space, while behind the wall, in a storage space running around the exterior of the room, there will be additional storage space for artifacts.  We are referring to this hidden storage space as “the ring.”

Brief water shutdown

All water in the Bunn Library has been briefly shut off as of 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14.  The water is expected to be out for less than an hour.  Alternate restrooms are available in Irwin Dining Center.

Drilling week of July 4-8

Contractors will be drilling and cutting into the water pipe system during daytime hours beginning Thursday, July 7, and continuing into Friday.  There is expected to be a great deal of noise on the Main Level near the LibLab and Crescent-side entry way as a result.

Special hours for holiday weekend

The Bunn Library will be closed the days of Friday, July 1, through Tuesday, July 5. There will be special evening hours to accommodate the New Jersey Scholars Program the afternoon and evening of Friday, July 1 (3-9 p.m.), Sunday, July 3 (5-9 p.m.) and Tuesday, July 5 (3-9 p.m.)  Normal hours will resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6.

New photos and water shutdown

The photo pages have been updated with photos of the remodeling as it progresses on the Lower Level. While work continues on pipes, ducts and other infrastructure, the walls for each room are taking shape so that it is becoming easier to visulize the new floor plans. 

On Monday, June 27, the library expects to have a brief water shutoff (30-60 minutes) around 10:30 a.m.
